Title
Industrial partners sought to develop a hybrid fuel and battery system in a novel kiloVolt design for mobile and stationary applications
AbstractA German university of applied sciences, leading an international consortium, seeks industrial partners for the development of a hybrid fuel cell and battery system in a novel kiloVolt design to increase voltage levels and enhance system efficiency. Sought are partners with expertise in battery systems, fuel cell systems, power electronics, thermal management systems and from respective application fields (trucks, buses, railway applications, heavy duty applications and stationary storage).
DescriptionHybrid fuel cells and battery systems play a crucial role in mobility concepts of the future. However, increasing efficiency is necessary to help solutions achieve a breakthrough. The consortium consists of six scientific partners from Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain.
Envisaged project steps and goals:
• Analyse energy consumption for mobile and stationary applications.
• Simulate and analyse module design approaches before construction.
• Conduct single component testing for HV battery, fuel cell, thermal management, power electronics, and energy management systems.
• Select desired components (e.g., specific battery cells) after testing.
• Construct the battery, fuel cell, and thermal management system.
• Establish and test communication between energy management, thermal management, and battery management systems.
• Develop and test specific modules before conducting full system level testing.
• Perform full system level testing in real-world applications.
• Conduct lifecycle assessment, including battery passport documentation, at both module and system levels.
In accordance with the above aim and project steps, the German university of applied sciences, as coordinator, is requesting industrial partners with the goal to form a project consortium and apply for funding.
The desired expertise from industrial partners encompasses:
• Battery system: Cell manufacturer, module and pack testing, battery management system developer
• Fuel cell system: Fuel cell system manufacturer, fuel cell testing, fuel cell system control unit developer
• Power electronics: Power electronics developer (HV-DC/DC converter, HV-DC (AC inverter, HV-frequency inverter), communication establishment
• Thermal management system: Thermal management system developer, sensor developer
• Application: Truck, bus, marine, railway, heavy duty application manufacturer /developer, stationary storage systems developer
The industrial partners will be expected to provide their technical expertise in the context of the project steps and goals described above. Furthermore, it is expected that the industrial partner will provide critical external input on all project matters. However, the role of industrial partner is not limited to the above-mentioned requirements, the coordinator will be happy to include further inputs/ideas/research direction from the partners.
