The SME recycles plastic (PVC) waste from cables, but these granules have a high phtalate content, making them hazardous waste. Under REACH, their use is regulated but they can be recycled into new products provided they will be used outdoors. The SME is looking for partners to develop such solutions together.

With more than twenty years’ experience in the comprehensive and integrated management of end-of-life capital and consumer goods for businesses and communities, this family company provides collection, dismantling, crushing and recovery services.
The company developed an innovative solution to recycle plastic (PVC) waste from electronic cables intro PVC granules. They received a regional award in January 2023 for this project. However, these PVC granules have a high phtalate content, making them “hazardous waste”. Under REACH, their use is regulated and strictly limited: they can only be recycled into new products provided these are products for outdoors use.
The SME is therefore looking for partners to find and develop such outdoor-use new products solutions together.
Advantages and innovation
The company developed an innovative solution to recycle plastic (PVC) waste from electric and electronic cables into PVC granules. The PVC granules are cleaned for impurities what makes them able to be used for extrusion as for molding and that without additives. They can deliver the material in granule size but also in micronised. They received a regional award in January 2023 for this project.

Under REACH and due to their high phtalate contents, the use of the recycled PVC granules is regulated and strictly limited: they can only be recycled into new products provided these are products for outdoors use.

The use of DEHP is also regulated under the regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)[3] due to its risks to human health (toxic for reproduction) and as from 27 May 2025 due to its risk to human health and to the environment. According to these measures, recycled polyvinyl chloride (PVC) containing DEHP can only be marketed for those uses not prohibited by the REACH restriction[5] and subject to authorisation.
