Title

New Upcycling Supply Chain of leaves and green waste is seeking research and industrial partners

Abstract

An Italian startup has patented an outdoor cleaning product that collects leaves in compostable bags and reduces their volume by 90%, transforming them from bulky waste into a highly available valuable resource. The company is developing a circular Upcycling supply chain in collaboration with other businesses to produce new-generation biobased raw materials and products. The company seeks partners and pilot customers to expand the network and initiate new projects.

Description

The company is an innovative startup and a benefit corporation, founded in October 2022, with its headquarters in Milan, Italy. It has developed a dynamic system and cutting-edge technologies to address the issue of outdoor space cleaning. The system vacuums biomass into compostable bags, extracts the air, and vacuum-seals them, reducing the material_ s volume by 90%. This process significantly streamlines the transportation, proper disposal, and storage of biomass.
The company_ s mission is to:
• Improve the lives of individuals who own or manage outdoor spaces.
• Transform bulky leaf waste into an abundant resource by introducing green waste recycling.
• Pioneering a new circular economy and upcycling model, in alignment with the recommendations of the European Commission for a sustainable bioeconomy, by creating an Innovative Green Supply Chain that prioritizes the extraction of valuable molecules over the final treatment of biomass.
The Supply Chain is structured according to a circular model that encompasses all stages of upcycling, thanks to a network of partners collaborating synergistically in their respective areas of expertise. This creates innovative industrial symbioses and new business opportunities.
The Supply Chain is organized into eight Branches, grouping companies based on their specific industrial processes:
1. LEAF AND GREEN FRACTION COLLECTION, from public/private green maintenance, agri-food sector, etc.
2. DISPOSAL, including the use of innovative proximity smart bins, door-to-door service, etc.
3. TRANSPORTATION.
4. SORTING, with screening and recovery in their respective production lines.
5. MOLECULE EXTRACTION.
6. PRODUCTION OF CERTIFIED NEW-GENERATION BIO-BASED RAW MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS.
7. TRADE of raw materials and products.
8. END OF WASTE, for the final treatment of residual biomass and the production of materials such as soil conditioners for agriculture and gardening, construction products, biogas, hydrogen, etc.
Additionally, there are two Research Poles:
1. MATERIALS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT.
2. REFORESTATION PROJECTS AND ECOSYSTEM CREDITS for mitigating the environmental impact of human activities.
More than 20 Italian and European companies have already joined the Supply Chain, attracting the interest of institutions, universities, and foundations for research projects and collaborations.
To expand the network, we are seeking partner companies interested in participating in the Supply Chain and initiating pilot projects in research, processes, services, and products within their respective areas of expertise.
Advantages and innovation
The company holds an international patent for vacuum collection and compaction technology for plant cellulosic material such as leaves or garden waste. Currently, it is building a robust network of supplier and affiliate producers in the new Upcycling supply chain for leaves and green waste.
The demand for biobased materials, obtained through recycling or, even better, upcycling, is experiencing exponential growth. This is because new-generation biobased materials provide a successful competitive advantage for businesses and align with consumer preferences.
The raw material extracted from green waste, along with derived products like paper, doesn_ t require tree cutting or the use of land and resources, as it originates from previously untapped green waste.
To ensure the quality and origin of its raw materials and safeguard the work of its partners, the supply chain aims to establish a new ethical and sustainable certification label.
The value chain provides a secure, innovative circular model that self-sustains over time and across locations, capable of scaling globally and adapting to locally available plant resources.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
As part of the Supply Chain, partners with expertise in green waste management and green maintenance are sought. Skills in logistics, collection automation, biomass processing and molecule extraction are essential. The company values experience in bio-based product manufacturing, research and development focused on biomass upcycling, and projects related to sustainable forestry.
